The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) announced the launch of prequalification for four solar projects totaling 3.1 GW in the seventh round of its renewable energy tender program.

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) announced the launch of the seventh round of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) and issued a prequalification (RFQ) notice for four projects totaling 3.1 GW of solar capacity.

One of the projects is a 1.4 GW (AC) plant near Hima in Al-Jawf Governorate; another 600 MW (AC) plant is planned for Bisha in Asir Governorate; a 500 MW (AC) project is planned in Madina Governorate; and a 600 MW (AC) project is planned near Mawqaq in Hail Governorate.

Successful developers will be required to develop and operate the projects under a build-own-operate (BOO) model. The prequalification deadline is September 29.

The SPPC launched its previous tender in September 2024, allocating 3 GW of solar capacity to four projects. These include a 1.4 GW power plant near Hima in Najran province, a 600 MW power plant near Ad Darb in Jizan province, a 600 MW project in Jizan province, and a 400 MW project near Al Sufun in Hail province.

In October 2024, the SPPC announced the winning bids for its fifth round of projects, totaling 3.7 GW across four projects: the 2 GW Al Sadawi power plant in the eastern region, the 1 GW Al Masa’a project north of Hail, the 400 MW Al Henakiyah 2 power plant west of Medina, and the 300 MW Rabigh 2 power plant west of Makkah.
