Slewing Drive for Single-Axis & Dual-Axis Solar Tracking Systems

Slewing Drive for Single-Axis & Dual-Axis Solar Tracking Systems

2025-12-12

With the increasing adoption of tracking systems in large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants, the demand for high-precision tracking, structural stability, and long-term reliability is growing.

The rotary drive is a key component in single-axis and dual-axis trackers, enabling the safe rotation of the PV array. Rotary drives used in PV tracking systems need to withstand harsh environmental conditions and possess extremely high durability, corrosion resistance, water resistance, and torque capacity to ensure continuous and stable operation over a service life of up to 25 years.

1. Vertical (Elevation Angle) Rotation
Achieves east-west rotation of the photovoltaic array
Tracking Angle: ±60° or 360°

2. Horizontal (Azimuth Angle) Adjustment (Suitable for single-axis or dual-axis systems)
Achieves north-south rotation of the photovoltaic array
Tracking Angle: 360°

Technical Requirements
To withstand wind speeds of 25–35 m/s:
Maintaining torque ≥ 45 kNm
No backlash or reverse rotation under sudden gusts

High Output Torque
Large solar cell arrays generate significant inertia:
Rated output torque ≥ 7,500 Nm
Higher peak torque for start-up and emergency situations

Harsh Environmental Tolerance
IP66 protection rating, sandproof, dustproof, and rainproof
Operating Temperature: –40°C to +80°C
25-year outdoor reliability

Low-Power Drive Motor
Compatible with ≤150W DC or AC motors

Reduced system power consumption
Easy integration with tracking control systems

Slewing drive solution

Rugged structural design
Square tube split structure for easier installation
Integrated worm gear and slewing bearing design
Natural self-locking ensures high stability under wind loads

High-strength materials
Alloy steel slewing bearing with precision-machined worm gear
Double sealing system for enhanced protection
Hot-dip galvanizing or powder coating for corrosion protection

Motor and control compatibility
Supports DC/AC motors

Encoder feedback for closed-loop control (optional)
High positioning accuracy and smooth movement

Global compliance
CE and ISO9001 certified
Suitable for global EPC and utility-scale project procurement
